If becoming a professional concept artist is your life’s dream, or if you’re just starting to look into career options, you’ve probably considered art school. The Center for Craft is committed to diversifying our audiences and to providing equitable and accessible programming - in order to do so, we need to know who our audiences are. Additionally, many of our funders ask that we report on the demographics of our audiences. Please note that the data from the demographics section will only be used anonymously for grant wiring and reporting.
Craft Industry Alliance
Please include a list of who you will work with to conduct your research and a short description of their role and why they were selected. This may include scholars, historians, archivists, writers, artists, museums, institutions, and other collaborators not listed. All applicants should create a login to be able to partially complete the form and return to finish it at a later date. Before submitting your application, you will be directed to a confirmation page where you will be able to review your form and return to edit or delete your uploaded files as needed. Once you submit your application, you will not be able to access your form again. Applicants will receive a confirmation email once the application form has been successfully submitted.

Lively discussions continued at meals, and as the group assembled at the end of the day for wine and cheese on the veranda of Waverly Inn, one of two inns reserved for retreat participants. Also this includes one-on-one coaching with industry professionals along with professional studio tours, demos from famous concept artists, and access to industry parties. It’s a fantastic school for developing art skills and getting your name out there. The Craft Futures Fund supports craft communities throughout the United States and their creative responses to COVID-19. These one-time, unrestricted grants of $5,000 are disbursed to craft-based education projects that seed resilience, foster community, and amplify impact. FZD is registered with the Council of Private Education, but credits may or may not transfer to US schools. The Center’s gallery opens to the public, exploring contemporary processes of making. Partnerships allow us to strengthen the craft community and leverage shared resources. CDA has outlined a general concept art track, a character design track, an environmental design track, and a storyboard track. Many artists choose to pursue a degree or diploma program just to expand their options. This project will focus on a constructed history of contemporary Chicanx weaving that intersects the U.S. fiber movement from the 1960s to the present, and an engagement with the absence of Chicanx weaving in U.S. craft and Latinx art histories. Applicants may only receive one Center for Craft grant and/or fellowship per year.
Awards cannot be deferred to the next year due to outstanding applications or multiple awards. If an applicant has been previously awarded a Center for Craft grant but did not complete the project or is still in the progress of completing the project they are not eligible to apply. Each year the Windgate-Lamar Fellowship awards $15,000 to 10 undergraduate seniors across the United States who demonstrate exemplary skill in craft - one of the largest awards offered nationally to art students. What we realized is that many of the questions we ask today about craft have been answered in different ways by the generations before us in the pages of Craft Horizons.
History at Hand
In addition to learning all aspects of game design and game building, students learn concept art specifically for games. All three of these programs cover digital art and concept design so any would be an excellent choice for aspiring concept artists, just depending on their career aspirations. Third term students narrow their focus and start building their professional portfolios. This is where artists really develop their style and skills in design presentation. Accreditation means that your credits and degree will be recognized at other schools, should you decide to transfer to another college or university. Keep in mind that different schools have different graduation requirements, so some credits may not transfer even if you did go to an accredited school. Whether you decide to attend school for formal education in concept art is entirely up to you. It’s definitely an investment, and only you can decide if that investment is right for you.
We also recognize that learning happens outside of formal educational systems, including studios, galleries, and other alternative spaces. This year, the Craft Research Fund Awards $70,000 to 9 scholars, artist-researchers, organizations, and institutions in support of research-driven craft publications, exhibitions, and projects in the U.S. Alumni currently work in companies such as Dreamworks and Arkane Studios, and were concept artists on projects like Ghost in the Shell, Call of Duty, Red Sparrow, Star Wars Battlefront, and many others. However, a lot of working artists in the field have a degree in a relevant field like fine arts, illustration, graphic design, or film. Some studios will specifically look for potential hires with degrees, and others won’t care.
